1. Anmeldung (address registration)

• Appointments open up to two months ahead. If none are shown, all released slots are taken.
• New slots appear daily at 07:00 (not at weekends). Sometimes more are released for the same day shortly before opening.
• Walk-in (no appointment): Wednesdays and Fridays, 07:00–12:30. Tickets are limited and can run out. The city says there's no need to queue before opening; arriving on time is enough.

• In person: ID card and/or passport, plus the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. A rental contract is not enough.
• If you're moving from abroad: also your last address in Germany, if you had one.
• The Anmeldeformular Wohnsitz is only needed if someone else registers you. They need it filled in, plus a power of attorney and everyone's ID or passport.

Online option: possible since 1 August 2024 via the nationwide service run by Hamburg. You need an ID card with online function, the AusweisApp and a BundID account. 4. Students: blocked account and visa money
